Runaway Train is an ode to the ‘90s grunge music scene and road trips.
This superbly written book centres around Esme a lonely teenage girl in a seaside town. Her mother has disappeared and is now presumed dead.
Set in a dystopian future, the novel begins with Saxon and Manny finding a young girl (Kerina) in the wasteland at the edge of their village, presumed dead. The distance between towns is large and the terrain is unforgiving. To their complete surprise the young woman is alive and despite potential ramifications for hiding rambler, they decide to take her in.
These women are old schoolfriends, who are not as close as they once were. Each of these women are intelligent and talented in different ways. All of these characters have an artistic talent, which becomes an important element of the story.
